ok, I'm closing this ticket at this point. per discussion on sa-dev:
as far as I can tell, this isn't an SA issue. so far, it's been DB_File,
ulimit, and the crazy HTML-taint issue which we all agree shouldn't ever
have been possible. and outside of that, none of us can reproduce the problem.
