This is a tracker for two related issues:
1. verify the TRADEMARK file is in the desired form for the official 3.0.0
release
2. draft and include a NOTICE file
Greg Stein writes (in part):
I haven't read the [TRADEMARK] document in detail, but I think it makes sense
to leave the TRADEMARK file in there, and provide a reference to it from the
NOTICE file.
We might have some guidelines around for use of the Apache trademark.
Reconciling the TRADEMARK document against any of other policy docs would be
good.
There is now an updated version of the TRADEMARK file. It needs to be
verified by ASF legal still. As far as a NOTICE file goes, we don't have one
yet. Here is my proposed text for a NOTICE file:
This software is based on SpamAssassin.
SpamAssassin is a trademark of the Apache Software Foundation.
You may wish to review the license for the effect this would have. Note
that a similar provision is included in the GPL and many other open source
licenses.
Also, if anyone would like to propose any changes to the TRADEMARK file, now
is the time.
