Moving to 3.0 target. This looks like a serious enough problem with an easy
enough fix (now that Dallas has nailed it. Thanks, Dallas!). Anyone who
disagrees with me, speak up and I won't take it personally :-)
I would like to look over the proposed fix before moving this to review, unless
someone else does that first.
