Deersoft Emerges to Combat Spam

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2002--Spam, unwanted and offensive
email, is an overwhelming problem that many see getting worse every day. Spam
not only wastes individuals' valuable time and attention every time their email
program opens, it is of grave concern to parents protecting their children's
email. Craig Hughes and Gordon Kruberg today announced the formation of
Deersoft, Inc. and the company's plans to develop and release anti-spam software
for consumers and the businesses that serve them.

"Deersoft is an incredible opportunity to grow a business that solves an immense
problem for consumers," said Gordon Kruberg, Deersoft co-founder and C.E.O.
"This is an exciting time to start a company, especially with technology that
already has a successful and proven track record."

Deersoft was born out of the open source community, where company co-founder
Craig Hughes manages the anti-spam project SpamAssassin. The SpamAssassin
project has an installed base of over 30,000 email servers supporting millions
of email users, and has received tremendous accolades for its speed and
effectiveness. Craig Hughes makes his ongoing dedication to the open software
community clear, "Deersoft is committed to supporting the open source community,
and is pleased to announce the release today of SpamAssassin(TM) 2.3.0." In the
coming weeks Deersoft will release the consumer version of SpamAssassin(TM) as
well as an enterprise edition. Both will be available for download through the
company's website at http://www.deersoft.com/

W. Gordon Kruberg, M.D.

In addition to Deersoft, Gordon serves as co-founder and director of Schoolpop,
Inc., a leader in education funding solutions, and as director of HopeLink
Corporation, a healthcare information technology company that provides web-based
products and services that build efficiency into the clinical trial process.
Gordon also has 15 years of experience with venture capital companies, both as a
partner at Grace Horn Ventures and as an operating executive in several start-up
companies. Gordon holds an A.B. in Human Biology, a M.S. degree in Engineering
from Stanford University and an M.D. degree from Northwestern University.

Craig Hughes

Craig brings 10 years of software development experience to Deersoft. Prior to
founding the company, Craig co-founded Panop.com where he led the technical
team, developing a web-based dynamic content generation engine. Broadbase
Software acquired Panop in July 2000. He has been involved in open source
development since 1995 and is the current maintainer of the open source
SpamAssassin project. Craig attended Stanford University, majoring in Symbolic
Systems.
