Using instructions in INSTALL (have to admit this is the second time
through this):

lcd 242# fg

cpan shell -- CPAN exploration and modules installation (v1.61)
ReadLine support available (try 'install Bundle::CPAN')

cpan> install Bundle::CPAN
CPAN: Storable loaded ok
Going to read /usr2/src/.cpan/Metadata
Warning: Found only 0 objects in /usr2/src/.cpan/Metadata
LWP not available

Trying with "/usr/local/bin/ncftpget" to get
    http://www.perl.com/CPAN/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz
NcFTPGet 3.0.1

Usages:
  ncftpget [flags] remote-host local-dir remote-path-names... (mode 1)
  ncftpget -f login.cfg [flags] local-dir remote-path-names... (mode 2)
  ncftpget [flags] ftp://url.style.host/path/name (mode 3)

Flags:
---------plus the rest of the flags for ncftpget, obviously ncftpget
           is getting an error--------------------

---------------------------------
lcd 244# ls -la /usr2/src/.cpan
total 7
drwxr-xr-x 3 root 512 Sep 18 11:27 .
drwxr-xr-x 40 root 2560 Sep 18 11:00 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root 8 Sep 18 11:27 .lock
-rw-r--r-- 1 root 139 Sep 18 11:07 Metadata
drwxr-xr-x 4 root 512 Sep 18 09:16 sources

Metadata dir empty.

This perl v5.8.0.

Any suggestions appreciated. I could ncftp the files outside
of cpan if that would help, but not sure where to put them.
