No one - you use one of the free anti-virus scanners.
agreed, clamav is free and work fine for this...
However a better question would be "who will pay for the hardware upgrades".. Seeing as the server that runs these lists appears to be severely overloaded already (ever notice how insanely long list postings take to show up?) I don't think it can take the added strain of scanning every message without completely collapsing under the load.
And before you start saying that it's not that much CPU.. start thinking about just how many emails go through the lists.sourceforge.net server. I subscribe to 4 sourceforge lists and get an average of 400 messages per day from them. There are thousands of lists hosted by sourceforge, so I'd venture to guess that their mailing list load between a half million and 1 million inbound messages per day. And that's not counting the outbound half, where the numbers are going to be considerably larger and contribute to the server load, but you'd only have to scan on the inbound side.
So if anyone has spare high end server hardware to donate to sourceforge, I'm sure they'd be happy to make use of it and add virus scanning, but given their insane quantities of mail, it's not like they've got spare CPU time to devote to scanning messages.
And given that SF does this all from very limited revenues they get from the ads they stick on the bottom of the messages, it's not like they've got a ton of cash laying around to buy more hardware either.
My 2cents is that all of us on this list are smart enough to have virus scanners installed, and sf.net provides us a listserver without charging a dime. So what do you expect for free? SF is clearly on the edge of being overloaded and doesn't have cash flowing out of its ears. While it might be nice for us to all speculate that SF should have scanning, it is clearly untrue to say that virus scanning has no cost, as it costs CPU power and requires higher end hardware to process a given volume of mail.
