>> 1. Maybe "localhost" isn't resolving into the local machine - does "ping
localhost" work? If not, then instead of "localhost", you'll have to use
the IP/name of the local machine.<<

It didn't it resolved to 127.0.0.1

 >>2. You didn't say which port you telnetted to to get the connection, but
if it was 110, then it looks like Mailtraq is using the local port 110
itself. In that case, try getting SpamBayes to use port 8110 (and 8111 and
8112 for the other two servers) and set Mailtraq to get mail from localhost
(or 90.0.0.12) on port 8110.<<

I tried this but no success. So I used the tried and tested scattergun
approach and plodded through all possible configurations and then bingo!

Should anyone else ask here's the set-up

In Mailtraq you set the pop3 boxes to use port 110. You also set the ip
address to the machines IP address not localhost.

In spambayes you set it to use the pop 3 server on the web and for it to use
port 8110.

You only need one port in spambayes as all mail comes through it as set
above i.e. our 6 pop accounts on nicolandandrew.com.

I'm not sure why this works but it does so I'm happy at present.

If the above seems to have flaws which will show themselves later perhaps
you would let me know :)

Thanks for your help Tony

Sure. The question would basically be "how do I put a POP3 proxy between
Mailtraq and the POP3 server", but we could add specifics.
