I suspect bug 1163244 should be closed now (I just tried to reproduce the problem report there under 2.4.2, and couldn't -- see comments I added to the bug report). Some nasty bugs with encoding directives got fixed in 2.4.2, of such a low-level nature that I doubt you _could_ work around them reliably (well, not short of removing encoding directives!). > Sadly I'm struggling to find the time to dig into this as all my current work > still only truly cares about 2.3.
