I second this,

Besides that it is very annoying that Spanning Sync popups all the
time while you are working, if you do not click it away because you're
AFK, you will have a million popups to click away at the end of the
day.
Besides an option to run silent, it really should not repeat itself
while there is still a popup active.

I would prefer that only the icon changes to reflect that the update
didnt happen the last time, just like Apple Mail when the mail server
is unreachable; no popups at all; perhaps only if it continues to fail
to update for over a day or so.

Hope this is a good idea for future versions..
