I have been having a problem when I run the google talk client with odd missing charicters showing up in my contact list: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3057/3131074847_d672951bcc_o.png
I can't find whats causing the problem but I am suspicious that spanning sync might be uploading extra data that the client doesn't like since all these contacts were added from address book using spanning sync.
