That is a viable option indeed, however, I've been a .Mac/MobileMe
user since the free days and I've been trying to escape its grasps for
a long time. Spanning Sync has enabled me to keep my iPhone in sync
with the Google apps which for now is a dream come true. I'd rather
not use MobileMe for anything anymore. I tried NuevaSync and while it
(sorta) works, the calendars just don't work the way they should. I
just thought at least over the air over a local network might be an
option and make the process a little easier.
