Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) of Hong Kong Partners with the CLOCKSS Archive (apologies for cross posting)
June 14, 2011 The CLOCKSS Archive is pleased to announce that it has entered into a library partnership agreement with the Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) of Hong Kong. The member libraries include The Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Lingnan University, and The University of Hong Kong. The goal of the partnership is to have JULAC leading the effort to secure participation in CLOCKSS by regional libraries. JULAC Chair, Professor Steve Ching said “JULAC is very pleased to be participating in the CLOCKSS initiative. The proposal to join CLOCKSS has been endorsed by all eight of Hong Kong’s government funded academic libraries which comprise the JULAC membership. JULAC supports the CLOCKSS vision to provide free access for the community to orphaned and abandoned electronic content that is no longer available from any publisher, as this is consistent with the JULAC strategy for the preservation of print and digital assets for future generations of scholars in Hong Kong.” CLOCKSS Executive Director Randy S. Kiefer adds, "CLOCKSS welcomes the partnership with JULAC of Hong Kong. I look forward to working with JULAC on increasing the library participation in this important, and rapidly developing, area of the world. Working with global libraries to develop the support network is fundamental to the sustainability of CLOCKSS's digital preservation efforts.” About JULAC: The Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) was established in 1967 by the Heads of University Committee (HUCOM). It is a forum to discuss, coordinate, and collaborate on library information resources and services among the libraries of the eight tertiary education institutions funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) of the Hong Kong SAR Government. http://www.julac.org/ About CLOCKSS: The CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots Of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) Archive is a not-for-profit joint venture between the world's leading scholarly publishers and research libraries whose mission is to build a sustainable, geographically distributed dark archive with which to ensure the long-term survival of Web-based scholarly publications for the benefit of the greater global research community. http://www.clockss.org ========== This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to The SPARC Open Access Forum.
