Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) of Hong Kong
Partners with the CLOCKSS Archive
(apologies for cross posting)

June 14, 2011

The CLOCKSS Archive is pleased to announce that it has entered into a
library partnership agreement with the Joint University Librarians
Advisory Committee (JULAC) of Hong Kong. The member libraries include
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong,
Hong Kong Baptist University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education,
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science
and Technology, Lingnan University, and The University of Hong Kong.
The goal of the partnership is to have JULAC leading the effort to
secure participation in CLOCKSS by regional libraries.

JULAC Chair, Professor Steve Ching said “JULAC is very pleased to be
participating in the CLOCKSS initiative. The proposal to join CLOCKSS
has been endorsed by all eight of Hong Kong’s government funded
academic libraries which comprise the JULAC membership. JULAC supports
the CLOCKSS vision to provide free access for the community to
orphaned and abandoned electronic content that is no longer available
from any publisher, as this is consistent with the JULAC strategy for
the preservation of print and digital assets for future generations of
scholars in Hong Kong.”

CLOCKSS Executive Director Randy S. Kiefer adds, "CLOCKSS welcomes the
partnership with JULAC of Hong Kong. I look forward to working with
JULAC on increasing the library participation in this important, and
rapidly developing, area of the world. Working with global libraries
to develop the support network is fundamental to the sustainability of
CLOCKSS's digital preservation efforts.”
