I think here is your problem. At least up to 2.0.35 (and I believe
even up to now) sun4c cannot boot an SMP kernel. Try to get a kernel
compiled with SMP undef'ed.

Your hardware _probably_ is fine. However, sun4c is only listed as
"unupported, but may work" (or something like that) on Red Hat's web
site.
I have had no trouble installing Red Hat 4.2 on a sun4c SPARCStation
SLC using netboot/FTP install, with boot images from Red Hat's ftp
site. I suspect that 5.1 and 5.2 (which I installed on a Classic,
sun4m architecture) will also work fine if you can get the right
kernel.
