Guys,
I've gotten hold of a bunch of SparCLASSIC systems and I'm busy
installing RH 6.0 onto them. Since I don't have a spare monitor at
home which will sync to the video, I've been working with doing a
serial console install, using my MAC 6100 with a semi-working VT100
emulator. The Mac side has problems with VT100 emulation, but I can
live with that.
But since the CDROM I have doesn't do serial console properly, I've
pulled down the new boot images from RedHat, put them on floppy and
I'm now booting from them. Their dates are May 28th for the
ramdisk.img and Apr 19 for the boot32.img.
The real kicker was that it seems you *must* have a keyboard hooked
upto the classic so you can hit the 'Enter' key once the boot32.img is
finished and ejected, so that it knows to continue booting off the ram
disk.
Once you do that, it does the serial console just fine for the rest of
the install.
I did setenv the PROM input-device and output-device to ttya, and at
the SILO prompt I do 'linux serial' for booting.
It's really just a small nit, but does anyone have a work around for
it? I couldn't find an updated boot32.img on any of the redhat
mirrors.
