Let's start from basics:
1. What hardware do you have,
a - Brick, unipack style
b - Oblong tower
c - Big ATX case
d - something else?
2. What PROM version do you have? If your background is blue,
press and hold ctrl-alt-w, then powercycle (you need three hands,
or too hands and a foot to accomplish that).
a - 2.xx
b - 3.xx
When you answer these questions we may select an appropriate
bootstrap sequence for you, with PROLL or without one.
This is your decision table:
2a 2b
1a No Proll, kernel 2.2 PROLL, kernel 2.2
1b|1c No Proll, kernel 2.3 PROLL, kernel 2.3 with patches
At the moment 2.3 does not work, but it will work RSN.
Eric Brower used to maintain the howto. If you want to update it,
try to get the freshest version from him and update it. Of course
you are free to start from scrath but I do not advise it.
