Greetings. I'm in the process of trying to install RedHat 6.0 on my
IPX (64MB ram, prom version 2.9, meets hardware requirements). I am
able to boot from floppy, establish the partition tables, ftp the base
package contents, select desired packages, etc. However, after the
filesystems have been created, installation fails with the following
message:
"mount failed - invalid argument"
I am using the latest available images (boot32.img, ramdisk.img) that
I can find on the RedHat site, and used rawrite to build the floppies
(the 'dd' technique did not work).
As a test, I tried installing RedHat 5.2 in the same manner but
encountered the same failure.
My IPX has been running Solaris 7 now for about six months with no
troubles at all. Both drives apparently have the Sun label and "whole
disk" partitions. However, late last night I rebuilt the partitions
(including the "whole disk" partition) with fdisk rather than Disk
Druid; I haven't tried to proceed but I'm not optimistic.
If anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I want to buy
the boxed set, but need to be sure RedHat will run on my machine
(considering that it's a "Tier 2" supported platform). Thanks much.
