Hiya all, I have experienced some strange (to me) problems when attaching my printer ( Canon LPB4+ with PostScript module) to the parallel port of my Sparc Classic. The printout is rather incomplete, i.e. it appears as if data are dropped "somewhere" during the transmission. However two subsequent printouts of the same document reveals that the "dropping" of data is consistant: it's the same part of the printout that are missing. As an example, I have a testpage where the first line is "Welcome". However when printing from the Sparc-box, the 'c' and 'o' are missing (and the other letters are printed partially). Attaching the printer cable to the parallel port of an x86-machine (IBM ThinkPad 390 running an equivalent kernel 2.2.13) and trying to print the same file yields a perfect printout with absolutely no problems. It appears wierd to me - as if there might be something wrong with the communication between the printer and the Sparc. However I have been unable to find any usefull information when searching the web and the mailing list archieves - hence I turn to you good people for advice. The current setup on the SparcClassic is some RedHat 6.0 with the 2.2.13-kernel. However with all other kernels I've tried (lately 2.2.5 - compiling a kernel on a Classic takes quite some time) the problem is exactly the same. Can anyone offer any advice - or share their experiences (good or bad) on this issue with me? I am reluctant to blame the bpp-driver (though it _is_ said to be experimental in the kernel source), but perhaps there are some requirements for that to work correctly? (The printer is from before EPP and ECP was "invented").
