I'd just like to use up some bandwidth to say that I think contratulations are in order for David, Jakub, Eddie, Ingo, Miguel and all the others who have worked so many years to make the SPARC port of Linux a reality. Although Sun's press release -- at http://www.sun.com/smi/Press/sunflash/1999-12/sunflash.991214.1.html -- doesn't talk so much about those five years of effort, the fact that Sun is actually selling any alternative OS platform for SPARC -- much less issuing a press release promoting the decision -- has to be regarded as a remarkable turn of events. Certainly they have been providing background technical and hardware resources for some time, as well as the quiet moral support of the Linux page on their website. But to actually sell the product is another matter, especially in the eyes of Sun's core customer base. This, closely following their decision to ship an official Sun JDK for Linux, has to mark a sea change in their attitude toward the OS. Perhaps preloading Linux on their hardware will be next; I've already started to see trade press analysis to the effect that this move by Sun still falls short of what is being offered by many of their competitors. My apologies if this seems hokey, clueless or a waste of all y'all's attention, but I for one am impressed. Great work, everyone, and thanks. --Bob Drzyzgula -- ============================================================ Bob Drzyzgula It's not a problem [EMAIL PROTECTED] until something bad happens ============================================================ - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe sparclinux" in the body of the message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
