On a Sparc 5 it seems that both 2.3.99-pre9 and 2.4.0-test1-ac4
fail on mounting /proc during init.
2.3.99-pre9 did not output anything
2.4.0-test1-ac4 invokes a watchdog:
Mounting proc filesystem
Watchdog Reset
Type help for more information
ok
This machine has once run 2.3.99-pre3 for a day. I recall that it had
an empty /proc/openprom as opposed to 2.2.1{4,5} kernels.
If I comment the mounting of /proc, booting continues until the one
mounts all local filesystems (including /proc) at which point the
system again freezes.
I must say I have not ran Linux on Sparc for about 1 year. I did dive
into this mailinglist archive and did not find a similar posting
during the last few months.
