DUKE ALBADA
Bubble Wrap
LAUNCH 12.30pm TUESDAY 20 FEBRUARY 2007

Operative 11am-2.30pm daily to August.
Lion Arts Centre Courtyard
between the Experimental Art Foundation and Media Resource Centre

Developed specifically for the Lion Art Centre site, 'Bubble Wrap' is an innovative and interactive art installation for the public realm. It aims to bring a new, surprising and vibrant element of interest to a wide range of city users. In the centre of the courtyard, soap bubbles pop, sway and push their way up and under passing feet. The installation celebrates play and experimentation and invites exploration. 'Bubble Wrap' offers individual enjoyment and a voyeur's opportunity - to watch other people explore.

Sydney-based Duke Albada graduated from the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Working part-time as an architect/designer, Duke is now a recognized artist of public art works which relate to the ecology and history of a given area. Her studio and gallery work seeks not only to make sculptures, but also to research and contemplate - in art, science, philosophy, geometry and music. Materials are varied and include new media, evanescent matter, natural materials, and building products. She has recently moved her works into the gallery and museum environment. Duke has received numerous commissions both solo and collaboratively and has been a regular exhibitor at prestigious public art events. Her works are held in a number of private collections.
