Latest work by Anita Bacic, Outside In/Inside Out

Anita Bacic's work engages with the human need to network, interact and
communicate with other individuals. Through this Bacic examines how we
learn to see, look and interpret the world around us. Much of her
previous work involved a vigorous examination of the various
technologies that have facilitated communication over the centuries. In
Outside In/Inside Out she frees her work from complex technology in
order to display an image without any editorial control. Each viewer
draws upon his or her own experiences in order to interpret what is
happening; making this encounter similar yet different to others. The
work allows a sense of self and a space for contemplation on the
universality of the world outside as we share experiences despite our
differences.

Anita Bacic will host a special afternoon event where she will be
available to take you into the camera obscura – Outside In/Inside Out.
Refreshments will be provided and the artist will be on hand to talk to
the public about her work.

Please Note: Optimum viewing is during daylight hours

Dates: 01 August – 21 September
Opening: Thursday 31 July, 6 – 8pm

TRESOR - Raum für flüchtige Kunst

Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des "TRESOR",
liebe Kunstinteressierte,

"mittel-land"
Video- und Sound-Performance/Installation

Ursula Scherrer (USA/CH) - Video
Flo Kaufmann (CH) - Sounds

Donnerstag, 24. Juli 2008, 19-22 Uhr (bei individueller Verweildauer)
Freitag, 25.

(Mailand, Palermo, Tulsa, Baden, Costa Rica).

gegründeter nichtkommerzieller Kunst-Projektraum in Stuttgart.
fensterlosen Ort seinen besonderen Charme.

Dear Friends of "TRESOR" and All Those Interested in Art,
You and your friends are cordially invited to an audiovisual
performance/installation at "TRESOR - Space für Ephemeral Art":

"mittel-land"
Video and Sound Performance/Installation

Ursula Scherrer (USA/CH) - video
Flo Kaufmann(CH) - sounds

Thursday, 24 July 2008, 7 pm-10 pm (at your leisure)
Friday, 25. July 2008, 7-10 pm (at your leisure)

Neither beginning nor ending, just the transience of the fleeting
moment and the interplay of light and sound informs “mittel-land”. As
if one were in the midst of one of those countless fog-blanketed days
on the outliers of the southern Jura in Switzerland. Everything is
wrapped up, blurred, rather subdued in this acoustic-visual
landscape, in which image and sound deliquesce. Swathes of see-
through material create a projection labyrinth in which audience and
artist alike move, linger and lose their way.

The soundscapes emerge live from homemade modular synthesizers. The
audio signal is transmitted via electronic filters to four
loudspeakers. Light sensors in the screens activate the filters, thus
generating, via video images, tone animation and differences in
volume. This makes the music highly sculptural and intense and it is
continually being linked to the constantly changing images. The
visual “voice” is created by an analogue video mixer. The pictures
are collected in and around the Tresor so that the room is, as it
were, projected back into the room. The pictures are combined and
confronted with impressions gleaned from trips taken in recent months
(to Milan, Palermo, Tulsa, Baden, Costa Rica).

“mittel-land” creates a space in which the here and now is so
overwhelmingly powerful that there is no room left for past and
future. This performance/installation is an invitation to linger, to
come and go, to move about, shift your position to follow the steady
flow of images and sounds.

About the art space:
"TRESOR – Space for Ephemeral Art", founded by Stuttgart arts
managers Winfried Stürzl and Marko Schacher as well as Kurt Laurenz
Theinert, a light artist living in Stuttgart, is providing ephemeral,
temporally delimited and impalpable art forms with a forum of their
own. The space is located in the right-hand wing of the former
"Bahndirektion" at 7 Heilbronner Strasse, directly across from the
north entrance to the Main Train Station. Its name harks back to its
past: the three large (some 50 square metres) adjoining rooms were
used by the railway operators for many years as a vault and safe-
room. A thick steel door and a safe two metres high still attest to
its former function, creating a unique ambience in this windowless
place. Taking that former function as their starting-point, the three
curators are reversing it: instead of storing valuables for
safekeeping, “Tresor” is to be used solely for presenting 'ephemeral'
art: short-term installative and performative formats aimed in
particular at sensory experience and venturing into borderline zones
of the visual arts. The programme includes media, sound and light art
as well as works that trigger off gustatory, olfactory or tactile
experiences.
