Hi,

One feature that I would like to see is the abilities to use the relation in
search.

For example, I have multiple Static Global Collections for all my location
(North, South, ...) . I want to build a Dynamic Global collection which
contains all Ethernet ports with speed >= 100 Mbits of location North.

Stéphane.

Objet : [spectrum] Improving SPECTRUM search capabilities...

Hi Gang,

Topic of discussion...

One of the projects for a future release is an enhancement of the core search
capabilities. We are considering extending SPECTRUM search abilities in the
following ways ... adding support for wildcard/regular expressions, the ability
to limit results to device models only and making the action and relation
searches available to global collections.

We would like to hear your stories about when Search Manager did not help you
effectively manage the network for find the information you were looking for.
Specifically we want to make sure that the enhancements we are working on will
improve your ability to locate data in SPECTURM and that we understand the
searching capability that is important and even necessary for you.

Below are some examples of searches that could be satisfied with the
improvements we are considering.

1. Leveraging SPECTRUM Relations in searches:

a. Example Search - Find all devices in IP range X to Y and Condition ==
Green and Location contains "lab"

2. Leveraging Wildcard searches

a. Example Search - Return all devices that have been named to indicate
they are in a lab

                                                  i. Return all devices
where Model Name Contains '*lab*, case insensitive

3. Perl Compatible Regular Expression searches

a. Example Search - Show all devices that have a name matching the regexp
'^[0-9]{2}[a-zA-Z]+[Ll]ondon.*Switch.* (Switches in London possibly)

                                                  i. Return all devices
that where model name contains the regular expression. The regular expressions
says, starts with a two digit number followed by any number of alpha characters
until London or london is seen, then followed by any number of any characters
until the word Switch is seen.

Specific examples of searches you would like to be able to do would be most
helpful.

Feel free to send your feedback directly to me.

Jerome
