Don't confuse reporting and ddmdb.

Both do contain a event table, but the first is growing a lot bigger than
the latter, as the events are aging out in the ddmdb due to the
max_event_day setting.
The same is true for the statistical data (max_stat_days), but statistical
logging is disabled by default in 8.1 (I think the log poll ratio was
changed to zero).
If you are still logging data (and not using the data in the ddmdb) - you
are wasting resources.

However as the reporting database is on the OneClick server and the ddmdb
on the Spectroserver they will only use the same resources if both are on
the same machine.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

Cheers,
Joern

We’ve taken this approach w/Spectrum as we use other tools for monitoring
performance… It will greatly improve Spectrum’s performance and provide
greater capacity for devices (against CA’s recommendation) You can still
poll statistics as you want with watches.

If you don't use the stored statistics i DDMDB, you can do this. This will
both increase performance of Spectrum and limit use of DDMDB.

We've got about 1300 routers and switches (mostly routers) and probably 300
or so servers and after about 11 months or so, our Event Table is about
11.5GB and the Interface Outage table is about 2.2GB. Most of the rest are
only in the 10's of megabytes.

Hope that helps

I'm trying to get a feel for how much storage capacity we'll need if we
start using report manager. We'd like keep data for a whole year, and
currently we have about 3,200 devices being monitored. Can anybody give
me some ideas on how big your reporting DB has become, along with the
approximate number of network devices and data retention period? Rough
estimates are all I need.

Thanks guys.
