The first thing that comes to my mind is NAT. We¹ve found that, if the
address you use to access the device isn¹t configured on the device (because
it¹s a NAT address), Spectrum will discard the device under certain
conditions. If you¹re doing any sort of range discovery, it will discard the
device. However, if you list individual addresses in the discovery
configuration, or if you use the ³Create by IP² or ³Create by hostname²
options in the topology view, then Spectrum will skip the address check and
create the device anyway. (At least this has been my experience on 9.0 and
9.1.)

Beyond that, you could enable discovery debug, which is in the
³AutoDiscovery Control² section of the VNM model. I¹ve been very impressed
with the detail and readability of the files this produces.
