I’m not sure I understand.
Our current Spectrum 9.1 implementation uses two servers. One for the SpectroServer, One for OneClick, BOXI, and Report Manager. When I read the release notes, I saw that having a BOXI server separate from the One Click/Report Manager server. Are you saying that (for simplification), BOXI should be installed on a separate server from OneClick? Or are you talking about CABI? Looks like I was right! The recommended method of installing it is to put BOXI on a different server to the Spectrum installation otherwise you end up with 2 Tomcats and 2 MYSQL databases. Neither installer is aware of the other so they both try to install MYSQL on the same port and if you don’t change the BOXI SQL port in the installer it’ll fail. Also it seems to take ages to start all the processes up – this is normal. If you crash out during that part of the install, you’ll have to follow the document from CA to totally remove all traces of BOXI as the uninstaller doesn’t work properly. There’s a bunch of registry entries and files that will need to be removed otherwise when you go to start the install again it’ll think BOXI is already installed and won’t let you continue. What I did in the end to make BOXI and SP9.2 work on the same machine involved a rather complicated bit of hacking. 1) Install Spectrum 9.2 2) Install something like Navicat that can manage MYSQL databases with a GUI (or you could get clever with a command line) 3) In the Spectrum 9.2 MYSQL install, using Navicat create the two databases required by BOXI manually. 4) Install BOXI, making sure you “use existing database server” and point it at the Spectrum MYSQL port However the BOXI install doesn’t create the database tables properly unless you use the default settings to install another MYSQL service. There’s a utility somewhere in the BOXI file structure that allows you to delete and recreate the BOXI services. When you do that it’ll recreate the databases properly. I had to run that create the database tables in the Spectrum MYSQL instance. Once BOXI is installed and there’s stuff in the database, reboot the server. Then, and only then, could I run BOXI integration into Spectrum and get report manager to work on the same box without having 2 MYSQL instances. If you’ve got a meaty enough box for 2 MYSQL processes, when the BOXI install asks you for the port number, don’t take the default, pick another one and you’re less likely to get install failures. Another gotcha I found when testing is that the Tomcat that gets installed with BOXI has a bug that meant the CPU was getting hammered at 100% utilization every 20 seconds or so. It came in 3 bursts, 2 short 1 long. I tracked that down to an issue with the way Tomcat processes the Java on initial process start. The only way round that was to stop/start the BOXI Tomcat service. Should the server get rebooted, the CPU issue comes back and you’ll have to manually stop/start BOXI Tomcat again. After feeding all this back to CA, I was told that BOXI and Spectrum shouldn’t be run on the same server if at all possible. Also be mindful that any hacks or tweaks you may make to get it working may mean CA won’t support it as it’s a non-standard install. I logged a call with CA and their advice was to install an additional Tomcat server – don’t forget to use different ports. Having done that I am having trouble with the CABI/BOXI integration. Has anyone successfully done this? Regards Stephen. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 27 May 2010 09:52 To: spectrum Subject: [spectrum] Spectrum 9.2 and CABI 3.0 installation Hi list, Any of you already installed BOXI 3.0? I've installed it on win2003 machine with SS and OC and had some problems with tomcat. My question is during installation, what option (a or b) to choose at this point: To use a Java web application server, select Java Web Application Server and choose one of the following options: a) Install Tomcat application server and deploy to it. This automatically installs and configures Tomcat. b) Automatically deploy to a preinstalled Web Application Server. Since I already have tomcat from OC I choosed option b, but I'm not sure I hit the right option, cause BOXI 3.0 now should have their own tomcat server? Thank you in advance, Srdačan pozdrav / Kind regards, _____________________________ Ivana Kvaka Sedam IT d.o.o.
