There is a 'hibernate' state for a model when Spectrum polls less frequently
and checks if the device is down. After 2 succesive succesful polls, the device
is polled normally and state is changed to 'Normal'. It's similar to
'maintenance', but checks every 3rd poll cycle (I think) if the device
responds.
For Maintenance, you can set a schedule, so the device will not be polled
during an interval and then polled again after the interval has passed.

I don't remember to be an option of this kind of polling throttling,
dynamically, during a normal device status. It could be possible using Watches
(based on the state of the model - i.e. contacted or not/up or down) to modify
the pollInterval and dynamically adjust it.
