Hi all,
Spectrum is designed to run continuously (unless you have a memory leak, that is). However, a lot of corporations enforce some kind of patch schedule which requires rebooting/restarting things. It may be worth seeing if you can be granted an "exception" to manage your Spectrum hosts outside the usual process. If not, there are "other" solutions. I had one customer who enforced monthly unattended restarts for their automated Windows patching process (PatchLink). The reboot would crash Spectrum (would not restart on reboot) because Windows would kill the Spectrum processes before orderly shutdown finished. I was able to script an orderly shutdown batch file for them, which they now run weekly to avoid multiple reboots on any weekend. Also, they now run Fault Tolerant servers, so the FT is patched first, one day before the Primary. That way they do not have any monitoring gap. Check this forum post for details: https://communities.ca.com/web/ca-ehealth-and-ca-spectrum-global-user-co mmunity/message-board/-/message_boards/view_message/9250723 PLEASE NOTE: unattended restart in this manner is NOT recommended by CA (but we do it anyway... YMMV ;-) HTH, --Mark S ________________________________ Mark Serencha - Inforonics Global Services, LLC - (m) +1-781-439-0519 - Mark.Serencha_AT_inforonics.com From: Calvin Lane [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 30, 2011 10:07 AM To: spectrum Cc: 'Spectrum listserv' Subject: RE: [spectrum] SpectroSERVER Restart Best Practices Thanks Cliff! It sounds like most people are not restarting their SS or OC servers. Although there is no equivalent 'job' in SPECTRUM, do you restart your SpectroSERVERs on a regular basis? If so, how often and what process do you use? Or, do you leave the SpectroSERVERs running and bounce the OneClick server regularly? I'm putting together a best practices doc so I'm looking for any information you can provide. Thanks.
