We had this exact problem running Spectrum on VMware. Our issue turned out to
be high I/O wait times due to poor SAN performance. You can easily check this
with sar, which you should have running on all your Unix systems if you don't
already. Anything that causes the VM to not get enough real CPU time will
result in these CORBA errors though, so you should also look at the metrics on
the ESX host - CPU wait and CPU ready should both be low.

Hi Arnold, hi list,

We're having Spectrum 9.2 on vmware and actually it's not working fine. SS is
throwing CORBA performance errors when more load is coming from OC. I want to
isolate where is the problem, in Spectrum or VMware.
How can I determine if problem is on virtual environment? I must say that
customer prepared all virtual machines so we don't see how it's configuration
looks like.

Hi Vincent,
We have Spectrum and Report Manager running on VM's and they are doing fine
with DEDICATED resources from the ESX server.
The only problems we have encountered is with the people managing the virtual
environments : they tend to use dynamic resource allocation ( CPU and RAM ) in
a Data centre and this does not work well : ensure that RAM and CPU's are
DEDICATED to each SpectroServer at all times.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your time on this matter. We plan to upgrade our Spectrum to 9.2
on a VMware box and OneClick/BOXI is running another VMware. Does anyone have
any issue on the performance or any recommendation that we need to aware of?

Thank you,

Vincent Nguyen
