We had this exact problem running Spectrum on VMware. Our issue turned out to be high I/O wait times due to poor SAN performance. You can easily check this with sar, which you should have running on all your Unix systems if you don't already. Anything that causes the VM to not get enough real CPU time will result in these CORBA errors though, so you should also look at the metrics on the ESX host - CPU wait and CPU ready should both be low.
