Christian,

You pose a lot of good questions.

Statistical logging through the SpectroSERVER by default was turned for a very
long time ago. I don't readily know what release, but a new install would not
have this.

Your secondary SpectroSERVER database would be overwritten with the new
9.2.2.H09 db from the primary once upgraded and the two severs synch, so I
wouldn't worry about what's there pre-upgrade.

There was one scenario that Leslie ran into where statistical logging was still
on. I believe it was an upgrade of an older environment and database that kept
the old setting.

I hope this helps.

Subject: WG: [spectrum] Archive Manager 9.2H9 and 9.2 SSdb

Hi again,

having thought through what I am experiencing, I tend to believe solution
(1)... although the database files are still there and a "show tables" in the
mysql console shows the statistics tables as part of the database. There was
somebody with the same problem back when 9.2.1 was released, and in
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg04649.html Rene
Cantwell gave a hint in regards to the statistics polling being disabled by
default for some time.

I always had the statistics polling enabled for I thought SPM results were
saved as statistic values in the DDM and therefore I wouldn't be able to show
Performance graphs for such tests. Coincidentically, we'd found out at some
point that these graphs are rendered based on event content (!), so I would not
be sad to turn off statistics polling aswell.

What I do wonder now is what happens to this "zombie" data in the secondary
SS's SSdb, is it being purged on the next SS restart? Is it a good idea to have
statistics logging turned off and have my secondary SS restarted before
shutting of my primary SS to install 9.21+ in my produciton environment to
prevent such a situation from occuring?

Betreff: [spectrum] Archive Manager 9.2H9 and 9.2 SSdb
________________________________

Hi all,

I am in the middle of a test upgrade from 9.1.3H14 to 9.2.2H09 and I am
encountering unexpected difficulties when installing Hotfix 09 in a Fault
tolerant environment.

What I have done is basically what I am doing everytime when I install a patch:
shutdown my primary SS and ArchMgr, let my secondary SS take over and temporary
store statistics and events in its SSdb, install the patch on the primary SS,
start my ArchMgr there and wait for the temporary Events and Statistics from
the secondary SS to be propagated to the Primary's ArchMgr. Further actions
after that.

Now it seems that my 9.2.2H09-ArchMgr accepts 9.2-SSdb-Events, but not
Statistics. My VNM's Statistics Log Information View shows 35,057 statistics
records and does not count down, whilst the Event Log Information View tells me
I have 0 Locally Stored Events (which had been around 2,000 at start). I am
also noticing a slight change in the ArchMgr's OUT-file content, there is now a
precedence value (whatever this might mean in my DDM database environment!) and
what is missing is the last line in which my 9.1.3H14 system had been saying
that it had started CORBA services.

I can imagine three possible sources for this problem:

(1) The DDM has finally stopped storing Statistics at some point between 9.2
and Hotfix 9. Frankly, I have not found anything in the SRNs so far.
(2) It's a bug, not a feature. Has anyone done this before?
(3) SSdb-to-DDM communication has been redesigned, at least for statistics and
while my secondary 9.2-SS wants to throw data via CORBA,, my 9.2.2H09-ArchMgr
is deaf on that ear.

Any help is greatly apreciated, since I want to come to an end with my tests
and move on to Production.

Freundliche Grüße / Best regards

Christian Fieres
