All,

This is really a question about 'best practices'. All of our custom-added
device EventDisp, AlertMaps have been kept in $SPECROOT/custom/Events and we've
manually tracked the Event Codes. We also manually edit the EventDisp -
partially because that's the way we learned to do it, and partially because it
allows us to richly comment the information.

I need to update the MIB and events for the Riverbed Steelhead devices - the
files that come with this version (9.2.1) of Spectrum are under
$SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Riverbed and have Event Code starting from
0x05bf0000-002d. There are many more events in the new Steelhead MIB.

Is it better for me to use my own event ID series (0xfffxxxxx) or re-use the
Riverbed series to add the new MIB entries? MIB is added from MIB Tools
utility, but mapping Trap Support is normally done by giving manual starting
Event Codes and transferring the data files up to the Spectrum systems
manually. It appears that the only entries under 0x05bf0000 are these
relatively few Riverbed events.

Thanks,
Al
