Hi,

I think the Host Finder is an external Application, which is used by Spectrum.
This tool will contact all (or selected) switches to search for the MAC
addresses in the Forwarding Tables.
This can took a long time and you can get load on the switches. If those
searches are running parallel.

We are using the product DICOS Port Access Monitor (PAM) to fulfil this
request. This product poll all Forwarding tables of all switches in your
network and stores the MAC addresses into an own database.
Via the WEB GUI, you can search for MAC addresses into the database, which is
much faster than the Host Finder search and creates less load on the network
devices.

I think there are other products on the market, which will do the same.

Best Regards,
   Christoph
