You could set the attribute Look_Model_Name after running the script to prevent having the name overwritten again.

November 2014 18:10 An: spectrum Betreff: RE:[spectrum] Renaming of device models (remove FQDN) (UNCLASSIFIED) I have a need to do this too, so would be interested in a reply. There is an option in the VNM model to "Use FQDN in Model Names" or some such but disabling that only takes effect on new discoveries. Also I've noticed that regardless of the order of naming priority of "SysName, DNS, IP Address" - whichever way round you put the first two, some devices STILL discover with the full domain in them with that setting unchecked. I have a script from a colleague laying around in an email somewhere that *should* do the job but with those devices mentioned above, if anyone does a "Rediscover Model" on it, the FQDN re-appears again and you have to manually chop it down. I was thinking about just writing a script to do this but was wondering if somebody has already done this. I simply need to remove everything except the first field in the FQDN. Ex. ROUTER1.acme.com >> becomes >> ROUTER1 Before I begin my script, does anybody have any suggestions? Or scripts they've already written? Michael S.
