Hi all, et Bonjour, I need some help to check out my usb/adsl installation before BT arrives with their ADSL modem. My installation is Debian Testing, and I have installed kernel 2.4.6. and ppp.2.4.1, sarlib-0.2.4, speedmgmt.ver.1.3.4, SpeedTouch.tar.gz. I followed the advice from Chris Jones's website. I needed to hack pppoatm-1 a little to clear an error message from /net/Config.in The advice on patching the kernel and creating the speedtch.o module, was accurate, however a note on the webpage to read the speedtouch install file to find where to unpack sarlib would have saved some time. Then got the latest version speedtouch-21062001.tar.gz and unpacked. Added in the kernel CONFIG_PPP_SYNC_TTY HDLC line discipline support Unix98 pty support as per the INSTALL. I had already installed the speedmgmt driver, the INSTALL says don't, so make uninstall may fix that. make, # make install, now works without a complaint that it had unresolved symbols. I included config_hotplug in the kernel make config, and the menu did not offer the Alcatel Speedtouch USB support as an option for USB. After the compile I had expected to find pppoatm.so somewhere on the filesystem but it is not reported. I know pppoatm.o was made, so the code might now be in the kernel. I can probably handle any problems with ppp if the rest of the installation can be proved to be correct. The speedmgmt installation is now removed, and /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap has no line for speedtouch On rebooting the computer ( and enabling USB in the BIOS :-) dmesg records that the usb drivers are registered usb etc ~ acm.c: v0.18 etc. and later usb-uhci.c tells me that two ports are detected usb-shci.c: v1.251:USB Universal Host Detector Controller Interface Driver # lsmod shows that usb-uhci is installed, but speedtch.o was removed from /lib/modules/~/usb/ mtab tells me that usbdevfs is already mounted on /proc/bus/usb I have a few days before my adsl modem arrives, and any advice on testing would be most welcome TIA Richard A Lough Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe
