I've installed a Debian Potato with the 2.2.19 kernel... just the base
system with the same pppd version as yours... after 3 failed attempts, i
realized that some ppp options in /etc/options were pertubating the
pppoa2 behaviour... and boum I was connected to the inet !
So I think there's a problem with one(or various) rpm package(s) that
cause this pppd error.
(version mismatch, libc error ... etc etc).
