Can I just check your using a Speedtouch USB modem? Or an efficent networks
modem with an ethernet interface?

I'm not suprised if your running pppoe (RFC2516) as it is different from
pppoa (2364).

Usually pppoa is used when you have a direct connection to your modem, and
pppoe is used when your working with an modem over ethernet. Nothing
mandates this has to be the case though.

It also depends on what sort of connection you have either:

a) An IP level connection
b) A bridged ethernet connection (the MAC layer)

Pass. AFAIK most people here are in the UK on BT openworld or in France .
These service providers all use pppoa.

Technically it wouldn't be too hard to convert the pppoa code to handle
pppoe (there are a few additional wrinkles with pppoe). I would suggest
reading the RFC's and conducting a few experiments on your working setup to
see what the protcol's being used are.

Alex.
