Hello, I have been attempting the Benoit method unfortunately without success. Perhaps my problem stems from having a jumbled environment having started with the other Johan Verrept method designated by Alcatel. My kernel is 2.4.16-4GB and the PPPD version is 2.4.0b1. I followed the procedure described to the letter. The SpeedTouch modem lights go through the blinking phases syncing the modem for a minute in response to the modem_run command. I get the prompt back without any errors. I next run pppd: 'pppd call adsl'. I immediately get the prompt back. 'Ifconfig 0' results in 'ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found' pinging an IP results in "connect: Network is unreachable".
