You are right. My message was ambiguous (but correct if you read it the 
right way :-)

What I meant was:

1. Some people have had problems with kernel 2.4.18 which they have
resolved by either upgrading or downgrading. (not everyone has had 
problems though)

2. If you downgrade then you need to apply the n_hdlc patch or use async.

3. If you upgrade then the n_hdlc patch is already applied.
