Hi, Just to let you know, with the current crop of Linux distros available having the kernel support (thus taking the tricky bit out of configuring a Speedtouch modem), I have written a script which does all the rest for you.
Just download the speedtouch-1.1.tar.bz2 image, get an alcaudsl.sys or mgmt.o into /etc/ppp/ or wherever, and run the script. About half a dozen people have got in touch with me about it, either with comments or slight problems (all sorted); I don't know how many people in total have used it, but I've not heard of any unsolvable (or even non-trivial) problems with using the script. It just automates the documentation at http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/index.php?/docs.html and does some basic checks at the end, but some newbies seem to find this useful. The script (and instructions) are available at: http://www.japarker.btinternet.co.uk/speedtouch/ It's been tested with speedtouch-1.1, on RedHat 8 and Mandrake 9.0. It should work with most Linux distros (assuming a configured kernel, with RH8 and Mandrake 9 already have). All the best, Steve.
