I'm commiting this as in. I agree in sprit with gerds comment about less
duplication, but I don't think doing it at this time for this particular
function is a good idea. Instead we need to take a step back and look at
really refactoring out the channel code, into a separate file. Yonits
red_channel.c might be a good start. With the SpiceMarshaller stuff
taking some of the work, making the display channel a bit less special
maybe this is easier now even.
