I put in a GM 7127 alternator, rated at 63 amps. It's a *very* common
alternator, used on practically every GM from the 60s through 80s. I
found a re-manufactured unit here for about $35, and it fit without any
modification to the brackets (I replaced a burned out generator). I had
to get a new mounting bolt and new fan belt (had to be 1" longer). Here
are some of the resources I used:

http://www.geocities.com/mesonsspitfire/alternator.html (UK-based)

BTW, it's purely coincidental that the engine died 2 days after
installing the new alternator<g>

My alternator is running a little poor, it would be alright, but it
seems that the short journeys I do don't charge it up enough.

So do I have any alternatives? I know there is the "GM" conversion, but
thats only in America (unless they use them in the odd Vauxhall over
here)
