Ok, well it seems as though I have a decision to make based on the reports from a number of fellow spitters.
a/ I install the plugs as they were originally, which is concave facing out, or b/ convex facing out. In all things it is nice to be able to have a decision based on experience. The experience of the majority favour the concave facing out, which is how I have always done it, and which is how they came out of the engine in the first place. Although I am tending to lean a little towards the convex facing out and 'pinging' the plug to cause it to spread and therefore giving a tighter seal. This is undoubtedly another proven method, and one that has to be thought about. I have run Stanpart engines with the former (a/) for a good number of years without any hassle. So that is how I will do it this time. I will however be keeping an eye on how things progress, and if the durn thing springs a leak then i will have to go and buy myself a hat just so that I can eat it, and grovel unreservedly to those who suggested I use the (b/) method. Thanks to all who gave me advice. ( I aint finished yet, I got a whole car to build) <grin> Happy Spitting..................John (In the UK) Spitfire MkII in bits. (Others call it restoration) Spitfire Chassis MkIV (awaiting a spot of welding) I am nearly a collector !!!!!!! Spitfire Mk III (for spares) I 'am' a collector !!!!!!
