Not usually, though I'm sure they would contribute if worn. In my experience, the
gasket will last about 3000 miles between changes on a well maintained and unmodified
car. The failure is also common on the Dolomite 1500 which uses the same downpipe
arrangement, though obviously the rest of the system is different,
