That is very likely the route I wil be going as well, but not with the GM alternator. I don't like the physical size of those units. I am going to search for a Denso alternator similar to what is in Tiny Tim. It is rather smal in size yet puts out 125 amps.

I have long suspected that the smaller pulley that was designed for use with the original generator is spinning the alternator slower than it wants and therefore not putting out the kind of charge that it normally would. I have a 1296 small journal from my first 68 Spitfire in my 74 Spitfire. When I did the install, I used the Lucas alternator from the 1500 I took out. I was getting slow blinkers, ignition trouble and dying battery for many years. I finally installed a Delco alternator using the core from a 1979 Camaro I own. The Delco solved everything. Fast blinker, bright lights, yahoo! I have not compared the pulley size to the Lucas, but it works great. It is a bit larger, but I have plenty of room.
