Daniel, it is version 4.8.2. I have updated with svn, but it doesn't seem to matter. We also have other compilers, but then the makefile should be modified.

It was a bug in a particular version of gfortran (4.8.x) that they fixed in 4.8.2 and subsequent releases, thread here: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=58099 I also implemented a workaround in splash which also fixed the original issue, so regardless of the gfortran bug this should have been fixed. What version of gfortran are you using (gfortran -v), and is your copy of splash from the tar file or the svn repository?
