And even in garbage dumps...Kurt, found a 1950 Stromberg-Carlson, perfectly
working order, in my other half's aunt's dumpster when we were helping her
move! It's got AM and SW and has a Bakelite casing. (haven't had much luck
with picking up SW stations yet though) Sue

That will do fine if the signals you want to hear are in the Citizens Band
or Ten meter HAM band. No, this radio will not help you at all. You are
better off looking for an in-expensive Short Wave radio. Older analog
(dial) SW radios can be had for $20 to $40 and are usually found at yard
sales, second hand shops and Pawn shops. Excellent used models should cost
no more than $100 with all the bells and whistles. If possible, and highly
recommended you will want a receiver with a switch that has SSB (single side
band) on it. Entry level radios usually aren't labeled LSB/USB, but
anything with generic SSB or BFO switch will work fine!

have just joined and keen to get into listening to some of the stations. Am
located in Australia so am limited but who knows there are probably alot of
undiscovered ones down here. Anyway my question is what sort of transceiver
or scanner to buy.
