The Department of Health and Nutritional Sciences (HNS) at South Dakota State University is inviting applications for a 9-month tenure track position with rank of assistant professor in the area of Exercise Science. The appointment date would be August 22, 2012.
As a faculty member in the Department of Health and Nutritional Sciences, this individual will work collaboratively with other faculty to foster the mission of the department and college which is to develop human potential for the purpose of enhancing individuals, family, school and community well being. Specifically, the role of this faculty member will be to establish an independent, externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise science, mentor student research, and participate in service responsibilities at the university and national levels. The successful candidate will be able to provide evidence of the potential to secure external funds and the commitment to quality instruction. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Establish an independent, externally-funded research program - Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Exercise Science - Mentor graduate and undergraduate students - Provide professional service and leadership MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - PhD in Exercise Science or related field by date of appointment - Record of research publications proportionate with experience - Evidence of grantsmanship - Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness in a collegiate environment - Evidence of professional service - Effective communication and interpersonal skills - Effective organizational skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Post doctoral experience - Record of involvement in internally and/or externally funded grants - Teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
