Hi WG, I reviewed draft-ietf-bmwg-sr-bench-meth and I support its publication.
I think the document fills an important gap by providing an SR-specific benchmarking methodology for both SR-MPLS and SRv6, while building on established BMWG methodologies. In particular, I appreciate: 1) the emphasis on stressing the forwarding engine across interfaces and accounting for oversubscription; 2) the detailed MUST-report parameters that improve comparability and reproducibility; 3) the inclusion of SR policy scaling and (w)ECMP considerations, which are highly actionable for interoperability. I also have a few minor suggestions that the authors may consider, which I hope could improve clarity and may help during subsequent IESG review: 1) Section 4.3 (Frame Formats and Sizes): The statement that "Fragmentation of IPv4 packet is not considered for Source Edge Node as this is not possible …" might be interpreted as overly strong. Perhaps rewording it as "out of scope/not considered in this methodology" would be more precise. 2) Section 4.4 (Protocol Addresses): Since hash/input fields for ECMP/load balancing can differ across implementations (e.g., 5-tuple vs labels/SIDs/DA/flow-label), it might be useful to add an explicit MUST-report item in Section 5 (Reporting Format) indicating which fields are used as the hashing keys and how traffic streams are randomized (addresses/ports/flow-label/label position, etc.). 3) Section 4.5 (Trial Duration): There appears to be duplicated text around hold-time considerations (IGP vs BGP default hold-time). It may be worth consolidating into a single paragraph. It would be great if you can review it and provide your comments to the BMWG mailing list. Apart from some editorial changes and minor modifications, the main addition is the benchmark testing of SRv6 compressed SIDs. As usual, any comments and feedback are very appreciated.
