Dear SPRING WG,

I partially agree with Changwang’s view regarding Option 1 (Dedicated P-flag).
Its simplicity and alignment with the current stable draft are indeed
practical, especially given that some implementations are already based on this
approach.

At the same time, I believe Option 2 (Generic Metadata Flag) also holds value,
as it aims to utilize flag bits more efficiently for future extensions. To
combine the strengths of both approaches, I would like to propose a new
variant—Option 1b.

Option 1b: User-Defined SID Semantics with P-flag

When the P-flag is set, the SID in SegmentList[Last Entry] is defined by the
user or implementation.
For example:
- If the user intends to carry a Path Segment, the implementation interprets
the SID as a PSID.

- If the user needs to embed other information (e.g., slice identifiers, custom
telemetry data), the same SID field can be used flexibly, with semantics
determined locally or by agreement.

This retains the simplicity of Option 1, while avoiding the need to define a
structured SID format (as in Option 2).

I welcome the WG’s thoughts on this proposal. Does this strike a reasonable
balance between practicality and extensibility?

Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Weiqiang
