The Power Law curves in NFPA 72 will give you somewhat of a correlation
between heat release rates and design/density curves. SFPE published a
sprinkler system design book two years ago that will help you (Designers
Guide to Automatic Sprinkler Systems).

Finally, as I'm sure you remember, an office is not light hazard because
you call it an office, but rather what are the quantity and/or
combustibility of the contents and the rate of heat release as defined
in NFPA 13.

Plastic or composite furnishings, partitions, computers, etc. Are not
necessarily light hazard.

There is no engineering answer to why a LH office sales area (without
all of
the extra paper, compact refrigerators, portable heaters, and tangle of
plug
strips under the desks) is really an OH2 design. The only possible
answer
relates to the fact that this building use is intended to accommodate
OH2
commodity arrangements. Not now, but some other time. And when it does
the
building will not be subject to a change of use code compliance action.

By the way, what is a Light Hazard fire if it were to be inserted in a
fire
model? Would a OH2 fire be twice the heat release rate since the
sprinkler
density is doubled?

This is one is a little more defined than some others:

It is NOT a tenant space; it is a stand alone building being built by a
reputable company that has been in business for many years.

The building has a separate 20,000 sqft storage warehouse in the same
building but is in a completely separate area from the showroom which
will
be addressed accordingly.

This will strictly be an entry area of the business with a SHOWROOM
meaning
the office products will be placed in situations like a real operating
office minus all of the computers and people.

The products in this room will be no higher than normal bookshelves in
your
own office.

The following description is why I question it Occupancy type. If this
were
the office portion of the building then it would clearly be Light
Hazard.
Since the furniture is on DISPLAY and not being USED as an office then
this
should be Ordinary Hazard? This I do not understand.

BTW, I had already laid it out and bid it for Ord Hazard Group II but
wanted
more input.

Mercantile tends to start at OH2 and then go UP in classification,
rarely
down. Maybe if they were selling angle iron out of a 10' high building,
you'd have a chance for OH1. Bigbox retail, hey-class 4 25' high racks.
But furniture and plastic- only in my area could you get an AHJ to sign
off
on LH.

My guess would be retail, due mostly to the concentration. Watch out
for rack storage. I asked a similar regarding a jewelry store a few
months back and got my you-know-what nailed to a tree.
