I love when people quote me and don't start the sentence with, "But last month
you said ..."

The key really is to give the AHJ some ownership of the design - especially
when the project doesn't fall neatly into a mainstream format. It usually
works like a charm.

As Steve has always reminded me, the "End User" or customer for a Standpipe is
the Fire Department. This is one of the few times when the AHJ is also the
user. ALWAYS! Ask them what they want, and why. It could be very educational,
and save a lot of headache and lost revenue.
We had a project today with Split Level access to the stairwell. Went to the
AHJ discussed our concerns on standpipe location, Mid vs. Floor landings and
which were both, as well as roof access. Guess what? They spotted the standpipe
locations on our drawing and we're off to other money making projects. We 'll
put them where they asked, and move on. (It makes life so simple when you can
just give the AHJ some voice, and give them what they want up front.)
